Cleaning steps

Always on. Converts Windows (CRLF) and old Mac (CR) line endings to plain LF.

What each cleaning step does
Steps run in a fixed order so results are predictable, and running the cleaner twice gives the same result as running it once.

Hidden characters in AI and PDF text
Hidden characters can come from copy and paste, rich-text editors, word processors, PDFs, web pages and some chat interfaces. They are invisible on screen but still count as characters, so they quietly break code, CSV imports, search, spreadsheet formulas and word counts.
Zero-width space U+200B
An invisible break opportunity. It splits words for search and find, breaks code identifiers and JSON keys, and inflates character counts.
Non-breaking space U+00A0
Looks like a space but is a different character, so string matching, CSV parsing and word splitting can fail.
Soft hyphen U+00AD
An invisible hyphenation hint, common in PDFs and web pages. It hides inside words so co-operate and cooperate no longer match.
Byte-order mark U+FEFF
A marker at the start of some files. Pasted mid-text it can break the first CSV column name, shell scripts and config files.

How do I remove line breaks from text?
Paste your text, then under Fix line breaks choose Keep paragraphs to join wrapped lines while keeping blank-line paragraph breaks, or Join all into one line to remove every line break. You can also replace joined breaks with a comma or nothing.
How do I remove hidden characters from ChatGPT text?
Choose the Clean ChatGPT / Claude output preset. It removes zero-width spaces, soft hyphens, byte-order marks and direction marks, converts non-breaking spaces to normal spaces, and strips leftover Markdown symbols. The Hidden characters panel lists everything it found.
Does this tool change my words?
No. Every step is deterministic cleanup: it removes or converts characters, symbols and whitespace, and never paraphrases, rewrites or reorders words. Show changes highlights each character that was removed or added.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Cleaning, copying and downloading happen entirely in your browser. Only your step settings are saved in local storage on your device; the text itself is never stored or sent anywhere.
How do I fix text copied from a PDF?
Use the Fix text copied from PDF preset. It rejoins hard-wrapped lines into paragraphs, merges words split with a hyphen at the end of a line, expands ligatures such as fi, and replaces odd spaces and smart quotes.
